Our Story
Narrative Science started life as a joint research project at Northwestern University Schools of Engineering and Journalism. Our first automatically generated story described a Northwestern Wildcats baseball game. Formally launched in early 2010, the company is based in Chicago, Illinois.

Stuart Frankel, CEO - Stuart founded the company with Kris Hammond and Larry Birnbaum. Prior to Narrative Science, Stuart was President of the Performics division of DoubleClick and was a member of DoubleClick's senior management team when the company was sold to Google. A lawyer and a CPA, Stuart earned a BS from Miami University and a JD from Vanderbilt.

Kris Hammond, CTO - Kris is a professor of Computer Science and Journalism at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern, Kris Founded the University of Chicago's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research has been primarily focused on artificial intelligence, machine-generated content and context-driven information systems. Kris received his PhD from Yale.

Rory Murray, VP Business Development - Rory comes to us from Gannett where she led business development for Ripple6. Prior to Ripple6, she held sales leadership roles at DoubleClick and MasterCard. Rory earned her BA at Tufts, and an MBA from Columbia.

Larry Adams, VP Product - Larry joined the company from Google where he was a product manager for its affiliate network. Before that, he was a software engineer and consultant building online content and commerce systems. Larry studied at Carnegie Mellon where he received a BS in industrial management and an MS in information systems.

Larry Birnbaum, Chief Scientific Advisor - Larry is also a Computer Science and Journalism professor at Northwestern and co-directs the
Intelligent Information Laboratory with Kris. Larry's research focus has been in natural language processing, case-based reasoning, machine
learning and human-computer interaction. Larry received his PhD from Yale.
